We do everything when it comes to pool covers, no job is too big or too small. We only use the highest quality replacement products with “Pro” installation. We can make adjustments to your cover and replace parts such as:

Sliders • Pulley’s • Tube’s • Track Guides • Rope’s • Track’s • Sensor’s

MAINTENANCE

Due to high tension within the cover system and various moving parts we recommend certain parts be replaced bi-annually to keep your cover operating smooth and worry free. (Sliders, Pulleys, Track Guides) Annual / Semi-Annual / Quarterly Cover Cleaning Service. Cover Scrub (Clean and remove all debris from cover itself) UV Protectant (Once the cover is clean we apply a UV protectant coating that helps prevent damage from the sun and pool chemicals. Vault Box Clean Out – A clean box gives the motor longevity by keeping moisture and chemical condensation away. Keeping a clean vault box can also prevent clogged drains which can impede cover operation.

General FAQs

I’m building a new pool / spa when should I consult with you to ensure a new cover system is installed with it? Before construction begins! If you want to avoid costly mistakes or issues where your cover wears out faster or is almost impossible to fix without tearing up your nice new deck / coping then contact us and we’ll help ensure it is done right the first time and make your life (and your pocket book) down the road much happier!

How much can I expect to pay for a pool cover system? For a small, simple rectangular pool likely 4-8k larger pools and complicated shapes and sizes add in the complexity and parts. But remember that they will save you considerable money in heating the pool and water via evaporation and can mitigate the need for protective gates and fences around pools to meet building and safety code (Standards associated with ASTM F 1346-91 Power Safety Covers, typically found on swimming pools). The bigger the pool, the bigger the cover, box and motor you will need along with more track and costs go up from there.

Can you install a cover on a pool that has an infinity edge? Yes, we have been industry leaders in custom infinity edge covers where others said it would not be possible!

I’d like to choose the color of my cover what are the choices? Take a look here.

My cover is dirty or I think it needs replacing what should I do? Fill this form out and we’ll get in touch and setup a time to get it all set.

My cover is not working at all what should I do? Fill this form and we’ll get back to you fast.

My Cover works but it is getting stuck or is crooked / cockeyed / slanted / jumping / jittery what should I do? Fill this form and we’ll get back to you fast.

How Long do your pool covers last? Generally 4-8 years depending on the location amount of use, size of the pool and if it has been properly maintained. We suggest a yearly service for most locations where we clean and re-apply protective UV coating and ensure the cover is operating correctly. Many covers rip or tear due to sliders and pulleys failing which leads to premature failure of the cover.

What are the covers made of? A strong, specially formulated vinyl that fairs well in sunny UV environments and is also rot / mildew resistant.

What colors are the covers? You can choose from 8 colors; Steel Blue, Light Blue, Charcoal Gray, Light Gray, Light Brown, Beige (Tan), Forest Green. Take a look here.

Are the covers insulated? They do prevent heat transfer and evaporation but they do not have a large R-Value; they are not bubble covers but they are safety covers.

How safe are the covers for my pets / children / guests? The covers are designed to hold a VERY significant amount of weight and are thus when used correctly add a lot of safety to the overall pool safety. Check out this whole family walking on their cover.

Does having a cover on save water consumption? Yes, in most cases more than several inches of pool water evaporation each week. Note that the hotter the pool and the hotter it is outside the more evaporation there is.

Does having a cover save on heating? Yes! We have some clients that have passive solar heated pools with our cover and are able to swim 10 months out of the year without any heating!

Is there anything I can do to prolong the life of the cover? Yes! All of these things can help:

  • Keep the cover clean of debris. Sweep or blow off leaves, dust and pollen so they don’t start to mold and create acids / bases that discolor and hasten the demise of the cover.

  • Clean out the vault - It is easy for a lot of tree leaves / needles to end up in the vault they can clog the drain and then during a rain water will submerge the motor and other parts destroying them in.

  • Splash / Spray water into the tracks to keep debris from building up in the track channel this keeps friction down in the ropes, pulleys and sliders and prevents them from wearing out.

  • Use a submersible pump to remove water from the top of the cover after rain.

  • Ensure proper pool water level is maintained - if it gets too low this can stretch the cover material and cause it to fail.

  • Get regularly scheduled Tune-Ups (see below) to replace worn out parts, add UV protectant to the vinyl cover all to keep the system humming and make it look good too!

Maintaining The Cover

There are a few parts of a pool cover that are prone to wearing out fairly quickly. Some wear out due to use such as the sliders that are made of plastic as they move in the metal tracks when the cover opens and closes. Others such as the pulleys wear out even when not in use since the bearings slowly corrode in the wet environment. When they break they can cause the cover to tear so this is a prime example where an ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure in that replacing a few worn parts can not only keep the cover working when you want to use the pool but also prevent expensive damage to the motor, tracks or tears in the cover material.  Here’s what we usually do:

  • Inspect, clean, flush the drains and vault box - these tend to fill up with leaves and become a favorite home for rodents. Over time clogged drain submerge the whole motor in water, usually ruining it!

  • Flush the tracks and check all the wear out parts: pulleys, ropes, sliders and guides can cause one side to pull more than the other which leads to torn covers.

  • Scub, patch (if needed) and apply a UV Vinyl Protectant to the cover to extend the life expectancy of the cover.

  • Ensure the motor is running smoothly and the cover is opening evenly and closing without excess chafe.

Tune-Ups

GLOSSARY

Terms of the Trade

  • COVER - vinyl material used to cover the pool and available in a variety of colors. They generally last about 7 years along the coast in the sunny Santa Barbara environment, less in the hotter Santa Ynez valley.

  • TRACKS - usually come in “2” or “3” channel varieties they run along the length of the pool cover on either side. Inside the tracks is where the rope and sliders travel when opening and closing the cover and a pulley helps change the direction at the far end of the vault.

  • TRACK GUIDES - these help the rope and cover material move into the tracks smoothly by guiding the material into and out of the track.

  • TRACK SENSORS - these are usually magnetic sensors that help the system know when the cover is fully deployed “covered” or fully stowed “uncovered”

  • SLIDERS - These Slide in the tracks connecting the cover material to track and are usually made of plastic called Delrin known for its high stiffness, low friction and UV resistance.

  • PULLEYS - these allow the rope to change direction and are located on either end of the tracks and near the motor to allow the rope to roll onto reels at the motor.

  • TUBE - Located in the vault, this is a long piece of metal and is what the cover material rolls up onto when rolling up (uncovering) the pool.

  • LEADING EDGE (LE)- this is the part of the cover that travels the furthest from one end to the other and connects the cover material to the sliders that run through the tracks on either side. It is generally made of aluminum with fittings and hardware on either end.

  • VAULT / BOX- this is a large rectangular box that the cover rolls up into and includes the motor and tube. The vault is generally lower than ground level so that it does not get in the way on the side of the pool and accessed from above by removing covering stones called pool coping. It needs to have one or more drains to let water out and can get dirty with a lot of leaves and debris from the cover being blown into it or pulled in when uncovering the pool.

  • MOTOR - the motor can be electric or hydraulic powered. It is the work horse of the pool cover to both open and close the cover. It is attached to the tube via a clutch and provides the turning power to roll the cover open or wind the ropes to pull the sliders and close the cover

  • COVER / SWITCH BOX & CONTROLLER - The switch actuates the motor to cover or uncover the pool and the sensors (if installed) can help keep the motor from turning too much and damaging the leading edge and cover material.
